What sort of wood do you use for the leaves?

We use oak. Oak is a very hard wearing and weather-resistant wood so it performs well outdoors. It’s also great for steam bending too!

How is The Fern fixed in place?

The beauty of The Fern is that the single steel spine bends back under itself meaning it stands completely independently. While many people think that it is either buried or fixed somehow into the ground, you can in fact pick it up and move it anywhere you like. We do advise, however, that it is wise to peg it down if it’s in an exposed or particularly windy location. (we can provide pegs for this purpose too!)

How big is it?

The standard Fern is approximately 1 meter wide, 1.5 meters tall and 1.5 meters deep.

Where can it be delivered to?

We can ship The Fern to almost anywhere in the world. Rates can be calculated before you order so please get in touch to find out more.

What is the seat finished with?

The Fern leaves are treated with a coat of Danish oil, once dry this is then followed by 3 coats of Sadolin exterior varnish. We apply a rust accelerator (salt water) to the steel frame to bring on the surface rust, followed by a rust inhibitor (Owatrol) to halt the rusting process and seal in the colour.

Are there any other products in the range?

Yes certainly, we offer The Mini Fern for children, The Double Fern for two people as well as The Fern Stool for perching or putting your feet up! Please ask us for more details.
